Description
2022 Australia $1 Color CRUX coin – Southern Cross Impressions PNC – only 2500
Crux is a constellation of the southern sky, crux being the Latin word for “cross”. Commonly known as the Southern Cross, the constellation is centred on four bright stars forming the shape of a cross, together with a fifth, faint star that is usually included with Crux. It has particular significance for people in the Southern Hemisphere, including in First Nations astronomy. Crux is visible on a clear night and can be seen even in urban locations. In the Northern Hemisphere the constellation is visible to people living close enough to the equator. Crux’s two brightest stars, Alpha and Beta, are the first and second letters of the Greek alphabet. Alpha is the brightest star and is the base of the cross. The next brightest star, Beta, is the left arm.
This postal numismatic cover and card houses an uncirculated “X” coin from the Great Aussie Coin Hunt 3 series depicting a graphic rendition of Crux (Southern Cross). The Royal Australian Mint has produced the coin in aluminium-bronze. This embellished cover and card is limited to a numbered run of 2,500.
